Experiences with gangs

Gangs roam my neighborhood and I feel like I can’t do anything about it. I feel like this is a problem that needs to be addressed. I like riding my skate-board and bike and I’m a little frightened to be outside past 7:00. the constant gang fights around my house is threatening to my family and me. I honestly think there is someone brave enough to put an end to gangs.

I wonder if I should ever be in a gang but as my friend Cassy said “A team is where a boy can prove his courage on his own. A gang is where a coward goes to hide.” Everyday someone gets hurt by shootouts, drivebys, and drug dealers. Gangs frighten people and I believe gangs can see when you’re afraid.

The information that I have collected puts everything into perspective. I found an article about a man and it says:

On January 14, Steven Rodriguez 29, was repeatedly stabbed and the back area and killed. His body was later found in a canal ditch on the 1200 lock of milpa Verde Street in the South most area. Javier Chavez 28 years old at the time, was charged with the murder. According to Sgt. Manrrique, Chavez had ties with the Mexican Mafia.

Knowing there are people like this it makes me feel uneasy for the simple fact that they are dangerous and they can hurt you mentally and physically.

I would really like to see someone maybe mentors go in and talk to gangs and tell them that there is something else that they could be doing. What I am planning on doing is interviewing people who work with gangs on how to deal with gang violence. More to come!

Welcome to Our Blog

What do you do if a gang approaches you?

Hi I'm C. and I'm in the 8th grade. Me and my friend are writing a blog about gang violence and what you should do if they approach you. We live in a neighborhood where the folks aren’t so friendly and by not so friendly I mean shootouts, drug dealers, and very violent fights. I hope to learn some tips on how to deal with them. If you have any information please comment.

Welcome to Our Blog

Hi I'm C. and I'm in 7th grade.

My friend and I are doing a blog on gang violence and what you should do if a gang approaches you. We live in a neighborhood where you would have to be careful who you deal with. We want to give advice to children and even teens that might be in the same situation.

We can both think about ways to prevent from getting into trouble based on our own experiences.
